20 DECEMBER 2006 Merry Christmas...Here is the cheat file for MAME 0.111.

01 OCTOBER 2006 Here's the cheat file for MAME 0.109.

24 AUGUST 2006 A new MAME release so here's another incremental cheat file update. As ever thanks to the regulars and irregulars on the cheat forums.

24 JULY 2006 Another incremental cheat file update. As ever thanks to the regulars and irregulars on the cheat forums.

14 MAY 2006 Here's an incremental cheat file update...now there's a phrase I thought I'd never use! A few new cheats here and there and the cheat file has been fully converted into using the 'new' cheat format that was introduced in MAME 0.60. This makes editing and viewing the cheat file in a text editor a LOT easier on the eye - but if you are using a MAME older than 0.60 then you must use one of the old pre 0.106 cheat files. Finding cheats can often be more rewarding/fun that playing the game and there are still plenty of cheats to find, so if any of you would like to help out then please pop on over to the cheat forums.

14 APRIL 2006 It's been a long time coming, once again I left it so long that it was a massive updating/compiling task. Next time I definitely won't leave it so long, Slade's Cheat Database Checker helped enormously, so the update process wasn't quite as bad as last time. Anyway thanks to the forum regulars and especially to ShimaPong who has been cheat finding like mad since the last release and his sheer cheat output has shamed me into finally getting my finger out and , and many thanks to other the forum regulars too. Anyway it's about a week short of two years since the last cheat file release.

21 APRIL 2004 I've been playing catch up for a few months and been busy over the last few weeks trying to make the cheat file easier for me to update in the future which I've succeeded in doing, although whether I actually do more regular updates with it being easier is another matter. And I really must do a redesign of this site soon it's been looking really dated for a few years now... Hopefully, next time I'll remember to do something about it before I release an updated cheat file but I'm afraid I'm too late again for this release. It's a year to the day since the last cheat file release, and many thanks to the forum regulars for supplying lots of cheats again. The cheat.dat is available in 2 archive formats now...the standard zip and the ultra compact 7z format, if you don't know what 7z is I suggest you grab the zip archive. Whichever archive you grab you will still need to extract it to use it!

21 APRIL 2003 Ok, it's been a long time coming, the cheat file for MAME 0.67 has been released. To say it's a massive update is a bit of an understatement. Get it from here now. I'm sure there will be a new MAME released to make it outdated soon enough.

Special thanks go to all the contributors who've posted cheats on the forums and emailed cheats to me directly. The rewrite of the cheat engine has also been completed by Ian Patterson (some time ago in fact), so if you never found cheats before perhaps now's the time to learn how much fun cheat finding can be. If you are a cheat finding virgin or perhaps you just want to know more about the cheat engine and what it can do I suggest you take a look at kelvSYC's excellent Guide to using the MAME and MESS Cheat Engine over at kelvSYC's Place

22 DECEMBER 2001 The cheat file for MAME 0.56 has been updated - this is mainly a bugfix release though there are new cheats aswell. Get it from here now.

28 NOVEMBER 2001 I just released the cheat file for MAME 0.56. Get it from here now.

14 SEPTEMBER 2001 OK, it's been a long wait for some and a not-so-long wait for messageboard users. It's the cheat file for the latest MAME and the first FINAL release for over 15 months. Grab it from here now. The cheat engine is now fully working so hopefully I'll have less emails from MAME32 users (NOTE for MAME32 users - grab the latest version of MAME32 you can find ideally 0.53 or 0.54 and you should have few problems). The cheat engine is about to enter another rewrite phase which will add even more power to the arsenal....so this maybe the last cheat file that will be compatable with the present cheat format.

19 APRIL 2001 Check out The Ultimate Patchers page, they have just released a new cheat file for MAME 0.36 FINAL it's been an epic project for them so don't forget to grab it. I have also some news regarding the rewrite of the new cheat engine - it's virtually complete, thanks to Ian Patterson. So hopefully it'll make the official MAME source tree soon, though in the mean time if you check out the messageboard you will be able to download DOS MAME 0.37 Beta 14 with the new cheat engine, and Have a play! Don't forget the messageboard is also the place you will find cheats for the latest betas and occasionally WIP cheat files :-

10 AUGUST 2000 As most of you are probably aware the cheat engine in MAME is in a state of flux, the rewrite of the cheat engine so that it works on the various platforms is progressing. However, at the present moment the options to find cheats are severely limited. Steph of The Ultimate Patchers has kindly come up with a solution for those technically savvy users, read on:-

"Here is the old cheat.c source file (version 0.01) which can now compile with MAME 37B5. Download it, unzip it in your src directory, and compile MAME again. Have fun with it 8) More infos about this file cab be found on the message board."

18 MAY 2000 Biggest update yet of the cheat file that I compile. Go here to grab it. Well, at long last the cheat engine is being fixed so that it will work properly on the Windows and Mac versions (in fact as far as I know it's only been working on DOS MAME for a while...) Thanks must go to Brad Oliver for taking on the mammoth task of completely rewritting the cheat engine. So once again Windows MAME users can cheat with the rest of us - as from MAME 0.37 Beta 2. The new MAME cheat engine is still a 'Work In Progress' so there are several known problems which should hopefully be fixed in future releases. The two main problems with the 37B2 release are:-

1. Cheat Finding is currently not supported. If you want to find cheats you either have to live with only cheat finding with 37B1 (or earlier) or recompiling 37B2 with the 37B1 source (not recommended for beginners!)
2. Several of the cheats will not function as advertised. IE. Temporary cheats (those with Now! in the cheat description line) will stay active and possibly crash the game. Also Select cheats do not function. All I can say is if you use 37B2 and like to cheat stick to things like Infinite Time/Infinite Lives/Infinite Energy and Invincibility and Always type cheats and you should have few problems...

I've also been updating the pages and layout slightly, adding a couple of new files like the dip switch manuals from the Ultimate Patchers (on a new sub-page) and a newer MAME to RAINE cheat convertor. I've also removed Mac Lak's neogeo only cheat file as he's no longer actively updating it - also you will find a LOT more neogeo cheats in Pugsy's cheat file.
On a final note I've been encountering a lot of problems with messages going AWOL from the messageboard over the last few weeks so I've just changed it to a Emulation World messageboard, this should hopefully solve all the problems. Visit the new messageboard here, feel free to post.

17 JANUARY 2000 Well the first update of Y2K, a massive update on the cheat file. Go here to grab it. Hopefully I'll get the final bits to build my Athlon 750 this week, this may mean cheat updates will be more frequent - I'm currently using an ancient P90!! The Cheat Finder Army mailing list has been launched, this mailing is list is for cheat finders only - if you are interested in joining it then please email me at pugsy AT gmx DOT net.

13 NOVEMBER 1999 Is there any experienced cheat finders interested in joining a mailing list to exchange cheats, ideas and cheat finding methods etc., if there's enought interest I will start it in the next month. This will run in conjunction with the messageboard. If you are interested then please email me at pugsy AT gmx DOT net.

12 OCTOBER 1999 Just a quick update to the Links page this time. Also this is a good place to tell you not to forget about the Message Board especially now that people are using it. Whenever there is a new MAME release this may be the first place to find cheats for the new games if you don't mind cut and pasting and you can't wait for the next cheat file release. Also if you are after a particular cheat for a game then post a message on the Message Board...you never know somebody may oblige and post a cheat?

25 SEPTEMBER 1999 Please don't email me about cheats in MAME32 as I won't answer them, the cheat engine in MAME32 has a big problem displaying cheats. Even the suggested workaround of turning auto-frame skipping off doesn't work very well. Until it is fixed I suggest if you want to cheat don't use MAME32. Frankly I'm sick of getting emails about MAME32. The bug has existed for a long time now and I doubt it will be fixed any time soon - so my advice for PC users is to get DOS MAME and a decent frontend. If you have any non-MAME32 questions or cheats for mame or raine then send them to the normal address:- pugsy AT gmx DOT net. If you want to chat to me then you can find me on #retrogamers2 on EFNET most weekends.

03 JULY 1999 Well, I've left my old ISP and I am currently without an ISP. Thankfully not too much of a problem these days with the number of free ISPs in the UK. However, because of this I may take longer than usual to answer my email so please bare with me. In the mean time during the last update Antiriad has agreed to me compiling the official RAINE cheat.cfg file, I'll be concentrating on this over the next few weeks and a RAINE cheat section will appear shortly. The cheat file will be distributed with RAINE so if anybody has got any RAINE cheats then please send them in, don't forget to fill in the cheat info line with your credit!! Please send any RAINE cheats to the normal address:- pugsy AT gmx DOT net

23 MAY 1999 Added an updated Raine Cheat config file to the 'Other Cheat Files' page. This MAY get regularly updated if I get time.

09 MAY 1999 Changed the page banner - the new classy banner was designed by Paul Slabowski THANKS :-) A special thanks goes to Jeremy Steffen who also designed an excellent banner but it didn't quite go as well with the new colour scheme.

29 AUGUST 1999 Quite a small update this time, basically just added the cheats for the B3 games. A lot of the games still need more cheats finding for them and I'd appreciate help in that. If you see a game (any game) that's only got a single cheat then please feel free to find some more. I'd like all games to have the same quantity of cheats as Bubble Bobble (here's hoping! ;-)) but I haven't the time to concentrate on these - there's now just too many games!! Addidional cheat submitting credits for this update go to Walk, Rodney Norton, Hman, Leo, xgebken and finally Jon Colverson for some Simpsons weapon cheats - I've got a few more cheats still to add from these fine people which will appear in the next release.
CHEAT FILE STATISTICS: 16461 cheats for 1574 of the 1642 games that MAME 0.36B3 emulates.
As always you can download the latest cheat file from the download section.

12 AUGUST 1999 Well here it is, the first cheat file for most of the games introduced by the brilliant MAME 36 BETA2. Nearly all the 36B2 game cheats were found by myself (again!). As this is the first release for over a month there's also a lot of cheats for the games introduced by 35FINAL and 36B1, infact there's almost 2000 new cheats! A lot of credit for these cheats go to JCK and the Ultimate Patchers. Extra Credits to 'The Gizmo' (for some Gang Wars, Shadow Dancer & Aliens cheats), RON024 (for a couple of Shock Trooper 2 cheats), Jon Colverson (for some Street Fighter Zero cheats), Nathaniel Fedewa (for some Moon Walker cheats), Rodney Norton (for a single Pitfighter cheat - it's the thought that counts!), walk (for the posted Haunted Castle cheats) and finally to Shun ( who posted some more Metal Slug X cheats and a fix for the Waku Waku 7 cheats on the messageboard ).
CHEAT FILE STATISTICS: 16050 cheats for 1530 of the 1601 games that MAME emulates.
As always you can download the latest cheat file from the download section.

03 JULY 1999 Well so much for not adding new games during the Release Candidate stages. I meant to release this update last weekend, but I had a couple of ISP problems. Credits for this update goto : myself (I actually found a LOT), JCK and the Ultimate Patchers (missing cheats for 6 games - thanks), Shun ( who posted some mslugx cheats on the messageboard - still unsure if I should have included them as mslugx is not yet in the official build ), Heiko Herold ( for the new Truxton and Ramparts cheats - I hope they sort out the MAME32 cheat engine for you Heiko), Kenshiroh (Empire Strikes Back), Yip Ho Fan (for a large number of cheats), Eric King (for some excellent new Gauntlet 2 cheats), Joseph Rard (for the improved Altered Beast cheats) and to Franck CHARRON (for most of the Wardner cheats).
CHEAT FILE STATISTICS: 14057 cheats for 1400 of the 1459 games that MAME emulates.
As always you can download the latest cheat file from the download section.

30 MAY 1999 Looks like I can take it easy on cheat finding for a while with MAME 0.35 entering Release Candidate stage no new games will be added in the next few releases. So that will probably make this update the last one till 0.36 BETA 1. Most of the cheats for the new games added by 0.35 BETA 13 I found myself. Thanks for some other cheats and bugfixes goes out to Bugfinder, Kenshiroh and Marc Sira.
CHEAT FILE STATISTICS: 13414 cheats for 1342 of the 1400 games that MAME emulates.
As always you can download the latest cheat file from the download section.

11 MAY 1999 Well it's been a long time in coming - almost 3 months since the last release! It goes without saying that there are now cheats for all the new games introduced in the last several betas. To give you some idea of the enormity of the update, the cheat file is 128K bigger! There are now 13,078 cheats for 1292 of the 1342 games that MAME emulates. Great thanks go to the Ultimate Patchers (Steph , PAC-MAD and JCK) AGAIN!! ;-) I also wish to thank Mac LAK for some new neogeo cheats. Finally thanks to all the people who sent in cheats for this long waited release:-
Thanks to jAsOn, CyberTaco, The Gizmo, Lone Soldier, Robert J Baker, and Daniel Clegg. Hopefully I haven't missed anybody out, most of the cheats sent are included in this update.

30 MARCH 1999 Well the promised page redesign is here, I hope you like it and find it a LOT easier to navigate if you have any problems with loading this page then please feel free to email me. List of improvements:-

1. Releases of the updated cheat files will no longer be announced on the main page, just look at the side menu under cheat files there are 3 different pages dealing with the various cheat files. Underneath each cheat file is the date on which the new cheat file was uploaded. The cheat file page contains a list of what's changed in the cheat file in the latest update, the cheat file to download and any other stuff pertaining to the cheat file - eg. cheat credits.

2. Added a messageboard, please feel free to post cheats, cheat requests, cheat bug reports, and any questions about cheats or any of the 3 cheat files.

3. Added an FAQ section, this section will be worked on over the coming weeks/months. I'd appreciate help in compiling this section, if you feel you can help then please feel free to email me.

28 DECEMBER 1998 Seems I slipped up with the update on 18 December, I uploaded everything to a subdirectory rather than the root - whoops! Today you will find my MAME 0.34RC2 updated cheat.dat file. Due to the changes in the cheat engine this cheat.dat file should only be used from RC2 onwards. Besides the RC2 compatability changes I've also fixed some bugs (thanks to JCK for pointing them out) and added some more Neo Geo cheats - the majority of which you can thank Mac Lak for. Finally the utils I promised last time are now available for download from the new utils section. Don't forget to read the update from the 18th of December!!

18 DECEMBER 1998 This time you will find two updated cheat.dat files, one from 'The Ulimate Patcher's' and mine - both updated for RC1. As usual you can download them from the download section. You will also find a new UTILS section, this section will contain anything to do with the cheat engine - ie source code changes, cheat.dat file updaters and converters to and from other emulator cheat file formats. I've yet to upload any new files into this new section but I've got two excellent utils from the keyboard of JCK of 'The Ultimate Patcher's' to get the ball rolling - I'm going to write some docs for them first though.

As most of you are aware JCK has made several improvements to the cheat engine during the 0.34 BETA cycle, the cheat engine source improvements are now complete for the final MAME 0.34 (though more improvements will hopefully follow for later releases). To find out exactly what has been updated click here.

05 DECEMBER 1998 Well, I've finally managed to update my cheat.dat file. It is now fully MAME 34B8 and hopefully(?) MacMAME compliant. With this update you will no longer be able to use the cheats for the 68000 games on anything less then 34B8 or MacMAME - so NO emails on this subject PLEASE. Anyway this update brings the cheat.dat smack bang up-to-date with 34B8. About 73K of new cheats have been added since the last update - most of them I have to admit came from the excellent Ultimate Patcher's cheat file, but I did find a FEW myself ;-) As the cheat poking part of the cheat engine now works with neogeo games I've added a load of neogeo cheats on this update as well. Thanks must go to the several nameless people who originally found these neogeo cheats for KiwI_SLT's excellent Neo-Geo Genie, I've converted the cheats to MAME format and have tested most of them on MAME. Hopefully in the near future, JCK will finally lick the problem of the cheat finder and neo geo games (fingers crossed!!).

04 DECEMBER 1998 Today you will find the Ultimate Patcher's latest cheat data file. It now covers all the the playable games introduced in 34B8 :) My updated cheat file should be available for download tomorrow if all goes according to plan.

NEWS!!! There are unfortunately a couple of small bugs with the cheat engine in MAME 34B8. Fortunately, most of the problems can be overcome by either enabling the cheats a couple of times or activating a single watch. Alternatively, if you so desire you can recompile 34B8 with a source update from JCK of the Ultimate Patchers. This is obviously the better option (short of waiting for the next MAME release!), so if you want to recompile you can download the source update by clicking here.

01 DECEMBER 1998 Due to the release of MAME 34B8, the cheats for the 68000 games in the older databases will no longer work. You can download the 34B8 friendly cheat database from the Ultimate Patchers and a program to convert old databases to the new standard from here. A new 34B8 friendly version of my database will be released later this week - it will include a LOT of cheats for the Neo Geo games as well as games introduced by 34B7, hopefully there will also be a liberal sprinkling of cheats for the new 34B8 games. A new Ultimate Patchers cheat database containing cheats for the 34B8 games should be released next Monday.

29 NOVEMBER 1998 Once again, you will find just the one new cheat database and it's again from the Ultimate Patchers. This time around there's several new cheats for the various TMS 34010 games as promised. These TMS 34010 cheats were all tested by TGCA and he also found some more. This update should have been done several days ago, but due to BT taking 5 days to fix my telephone line I've been unable to use my dialup connection.

17 NOVEMBER 1998 This time you will find just the one new cheat database and it's from the Ultimate Patchers. It contains several new cheats including cheats for most of the games introduced by the latest beta - 34b7. There's only cheats for one of the TMS 34010 games though - NARC, but there's sure to be more to follow. The next update of my cheat.dat will probably be after the next MAME release - I'm very busy updating and fixing the broken links on my C64 page at the moment :-((

03 NOVEMBER 1998 Two new cheat files again (mine and The Ultimate Patchers) which have both been updated for 34B6. You will notice a lot of changes in both cheat files with the addition of new level select codes thanks to JCKs excellent source improvements. There are also codes for games which previously had no cheats at all - games like Vindicators, Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters and the much requested Jackal (the cheat finding was made possible by a recompile of 34b5 with a altered cheat finder - thanks again to JCK). Cheat credits this time go to I, Martin Pugh (as ever!), the Ultimate Patchers (for a load of different codes), Jason and Felipe de Almeida Leme.

13 OCTOBER 1998 The Ultimate Patchers have updated their cheat file, main additions are the 34b4 games and some new cheats due to JCK's MAME cheat source changes. I've also taken the chance to update my cheat.dat - 14K of cheats added on this update. Thanks go this time to Jason, Kim Scarborough, Nate, Santeri Saarimaa and of course the Ultimate Patchers.

05 OCTOBER 1998 More big changes again, the assimilation of the Ultimate Patchers cheat.dat continues, and I've added quite a few cheat myself including ones for the new 34b4 games. Thanks to JCK again for pointing out some bugs with some of the cheats which I'm still in the process of fixing :-(. The cheat.dat is now over 240K uncompressed! Thanks to Jose Miguel Aunion, Martin Fernandez, The StarCreator, Kim Scarborough and Jason who have all submitted cheats since the last update - some of the cheats have yet to be added but will make it on the next update. Finally, the Ultimate Patchers released their new cheat file on 1st October (sorry for the late upload!) which is now upto version 5.0E, it contains cheats for the games upto 34b3. You can download it from the download section. Thankfully some of JCK cheat finder source changes have made it into MAME 34b4 so you will no doubt see an increase in the number of cheats soon :)
PLEASE ALL NOTE THE NEO GEO CHEATS IN MY CHEAT.DAT STILL DON'T WORK WITH THE LATEST BETA, TO USE THEM YOU MUST GET 34B1!!

22 SEPTEMBER 1998 As promised you can now download an alternative MAME cheat file from 'The Ultimate Patchers' available from the download section. You will also find a minor update to my cheat.dat including a downsizing of all the Xevious clones invincibility cheats to one cheat line, no biggy but it will hopefully annoy JCK ;-) BTW, there appears to be a problem with neogeo cheats in 34b3, they simply don't work - I'm leaving the cheats in though as I hope it will be fixed in the next release. Also, please don't email me about cheats not working in 34b2 - it was a slight bug in the BETA which has now been fixed in 34b3.

20 SEPTEMBER 1998 Well, it's been three weeks since the last update and this update is enormous - over 50K of new cheats added (the cheat.dat file is now a whopping 192K and is still set to grow!). I've added lots of cheats myself including cheats for the games introduced in the last two betas - 34b2 and 34b3. But a real BIG THANKS must go to 'The Ultimate Patchers' and JCK in particular for sending me their cheat.dat file, from which I have shamefully ripped a load of cheats ;-) On that note, this page should be updated again by Tuesday morning so that you can also download The Ultimate Patchers latest cheat.dat file which contains quite a few cheats that you can't find in my cheat.dat file. Hopefully if JCK's source code amendments are incorporated into MAME you will be able to use two cheat.dat files and be able to have 50 cheats selected from a maximum of 200 - this will be useful for certain games like Bubble Bobble :-). Finally thanks to Jon Attree, Jose Miguel Aunion, Riaan Prinsloo, Federico Stein, Jason, From A Distance, Daniel Donoghue and Kevin Butler for sending me cheats over the last couple of weeks - some of the cheats have been added, some haven't YET but I thought I'd better add them to the credits before I forget! (so much to do, so little time!)

30 AUGUST 1998 A new update - lots of new cheats from me this time including lots of new cheats for the games added in the last BETA 0.34B1. Special Thanks to Doug Works for an extra Jack TGK cheat, Coyotepaw for some Punchout cheats, Iain Odlin for a Puzzle de Pon cheat and finally to Nathan Duran for a new Ninja Gaiden cheat.

18 AUGUST 1998 Another update, a couple of small cheats from me and finally some cheats from others! Special Thanks to John Sensebe for the new Sidearms, Sarge and Goldstar cheats and to Nathan Duran for some new Alien Syndrome and Contra cheats.

03 AUGUST 1998 Fixed the Galaga cheats for the new renamed ROMs. Also added lots more cheats for Chelnov (Atomic Runner), Basketball, Cops 'n' Robbers, Curve Ball, Dark Planet, Dark Seal, D-Day, Depth Charge, Dominos, Gate of Doom, Helifire, Super Space Invaders '91 and Up 'n' Down amongst others! Thanks to Paul Slabowski of MAME Medic fame for the title banner. No cheat credits again on this update - once again I produced all these cheats myself :-(

01 AUGUST 1998 A lot of changes this time including a lot of fixing cheats to work with MAME 0.33 BETA 7 and RC1. Also added more cheats for most of the games introduced with the latest versions. The CHEAT.DAT file now comes in at just under 128K!

19 JULY 1998 Another week another 5% increase in size, most of the new cheats I produced myself. Thanks go to "Dude" for some cheats he posted on Dave's Mame Board.

11 JULY 1998 Lots more cheats added, I've also updated the links section and have added a page update reminder. Thanks to Paul Slabowski for the new Pinball Action cheats and David Jumper for the Spider cheats.

28 JUNE 1998 Lots of new cheats added, far too many to list - CHEAT.DAT file has grown by over 5% in a week! Thanks to F. D. Vorck and Kim Scarborough.

21 JUNE 1998 This is the first update for some time, I simply haven't had time due to other pressures. However, I'm now concentrating on getting the CHEAT.DAT file slap bang up-to-date. The CHEAT.DAT released has got too many cheats to list individually. To give you some idea of the number of changes - the previous CHEAT.DAT file for MAME 0.30 was 69K, the new version now includes cheats for games upto MAME 0.33 BETA 6 and is 104K! There will be several updates to this CHEAT.DAT over the coming weeks, and due to improvements in MAME's cheat finder there will also be new cheats for some of the earlier emulated games as well as more cheats for the new games - so stay tuned!

20 MAR 1998 Made and added some invincibility cheats for Section Z, Cosmic Avenger, Pulsar and the three versions of Phoenix. I've also added some cheats for Pinball Action, Jack and a fixed infinite time cheat for Kick Rider. Finally, thanks to Chuck Livingston for sending me some Super Basketball cheats which I've also  added.

22 FEB 1998 Fixed the Missile Command cheats so that you no longer have to deactivate the cheats at the end of each level (problem pointed out by Ken Lui). Also added an extra cheat for Snapjack.

15 FEB 1998 Finally got round to making some cheats for both Colony 7 ROM sets. Also added some invincibility cheats for Mr Do! Run Run and Super Piero (I actually found a use for option 11!).

14 FEB 1998 Added some more cheats for the Gunsmoke ROM sets courtesy of Thierry Jaboeuf.

09 FEB 1998 Corrected some cheat descriptions and amended both Kung Fu Master invincibility cheats to use the correct '9' option. Also added some more cheat codes that I found for Tutankham, Qix 2, Tapper, Root Beer Tapper, Track & Field, Hyper Olympics, Hypersports and Silkworm.

08 FEB 1998 Initial release of my compiled CHEAT.DAT file, it's now so big it won't fit into notepad!. <
